FLORENCE--The Pee Dee Pride began its First Safari at the Florence City-County
Civic Center here Thursday night, beating the Raleigh IceCaps 4-2 in front of 4,950
raucous fans.

The Pride outshot, outhit and outplayed the IceCaps in winning their first game ever
in the Florence and Pee Dee Region.

"The first win, obviously, is a big thrill for us, it's history," said Pride head coach Jack
Capuano. "We're real happy, the fan support was just teriffic and, hopefully, this is
the start of good things to come."

Peter Geronazzo scored two goals, while Vaclav Nedomansky had a goal and an
assist, and Jay Mazur added two assists.

"It was a total, total team effort," said Pride head coach Jack Capuano. "They (the
IceCaps) scored five or six minutes into the game and we didn't get down. We came
back and played really well."

After David Cunniff gave Raleigh a 1-0 lead, Pee Dee's Ryan Petz one-timed a
perfect pass from Doug Searle past Raleigh goalie Frederick Henry to tie the game
at the 7:08 mark.

Pee Dee took its first lead at 2-1 just 1:19 into the second period when Vaclav
Nedomansky punched in a Brian Goudie slapshot that Henry couldn't control.

"There was basically a scramble in front (of the goal) and the rebound was just
sitting there," said Nedomansky. "I said to myself, 'I gotta put it in the net, otherwise
there'd be no fun,' So I stuck it in the net and we celebrated."

Geronazzo, who came to the team on Wednesday from Orlando, then made it 3-1
with a little over a minute left in the second period with a flip shot over Henry's
right shoulder.

"Jay (Mazur) made a great play at the (blue) line and got me the puck," said
Geronazzo. "I had a little time, so I picked my spot and put it past the goalie."

Raleigh closed the gap to 3-2 nearly six minutes into the third period. Kory Karlander
took a pass from Tony Bergin and beat Pride goalie Paul Taylor on the stick side.

But Geronazzo made an empty net goal with 36 seconds to close out the scoring and
most of the 4,950 left.

"Having Peter Geronazzo scoring two goals does not surprise me one bit," Capuano
said. "He is a prolific goal scorer."
